Web Color

Posted by jsbee on February 20, 2007

I really liked the Nike site because it of the dark simple colors. Nike used tones of black and gray and then added just a little bit of color on the night logo to make it stand out. The log pops on the all black background and really helps to highlight the product.

Another site that I liked was the Hershey website. This site was mostly browns but then used very colorful rotating pictures. This site really played on your hunger emotion because the browns really made you want to eat chocolate.

Wendy’s website used the red and yellow colors. These colors are known for their ability to make people think about food. The red and yellow really look good together and help to create a cheerful website.

Cy on Web Color

http://www.designsponge.blogspot.com/

Design Sponge is a blog run by a journalist about color, advertisements, products, and all sorts of other things. The blob elements and colors in the header image are fairly muted (and consistent with the other layout colors), but I think this is an appropriate choice considering most posts to the blog are brightly colored with lots of visual elements. The text is clearly secondary to visuals all over the page.

I came across Mac & Cheese Design randomly– it is a custom photo book design company. The art on their website caught my eye as being very ‘outside the box.’ I like the simple line drawings, and the old photograph circles that line the bottom of the main page. The rest of the content continues to use simple color (and sometimes just text), but the overall result is a very clean looking page.

Besides being hilarious, I think this simple blog is a good model for a personal website that a user could update on a daily basis. There is a set, simple color scheme, there is a nice recurring logo, and the table layout is very effective in organizing different content elements. The posted pictures don’t have color in common usually, so its nice to have everything surrounding the pictures be consistent in color and style.

Website Colors

Posted by johnkitners on February 20, 2007

When considering websites for the color assignment, I picked sites that were pleasing to the eye, yet the site had to be fucntional as well.  The first site I found that offered functionality and had great color was www.bestbuy.com.  I liked the use of the primary (yellow and blue), but it’s still a very fucntional site.  The second site I found was www.tourhockey.com, it uses the middle space of the space like the Mizzou and McDonald’s website.  It has a simple back background and a reliable script that loads every time.  The third site I found was www.eaglehockey.com, once again it has nice graphics, is very simple, and is very fucntional.

Color Combinations – Mike Pasch

http://www.ae.com

I chose this website because unlike many sites they use a fixed image as the background. I thought that at a quick glance that it looked like a lot was going on. However, I liked how they used the lighter color blue against the green grass background and actually have them outlined in white for more definition. AE choses these light colors for a reason. AE as a company has specific company colors that to them indicate a certain meaning or look.

I chose this website because it uses black as the background which is the color that i use the most on the websites I design. I dont like classic white so then next best thing is black because any light color against the black stands out very well. On this website the picture has a white halo around it making it stand out more and the words at the bottom stand out very clear.

This last website uses earth-tone colors and that is obviously because they are promoting the use of their vehicles for off-roading/exploring. Their colors are being used for a specific goal and to promote a certain aspect. I like their use of the white lettering which is very easy to view against the color of beige that they use.

Color Combinations- Rachel Klein

Posted by rlkyq9 on February 20, 2007

The first website I went to was http://www.nytimes.com/ and the set up is very simple and basic. I think they chose a website like this because they want the actual information in their articles to stand out, rather than focusing on the aethetics. The site is clearly divided into many grids and a little color is used to distinguish the subtitles of the articles.

Another site that I looked at was http://www.macaroondesign.com/ . I think the dark, rich red allowed for the website to be more engaging with the viewer. The rich red color drastically stood out from themore bland background color.

The last site I looked at was http://www.longstone-edge.org.uk/ . The subject matter and the colors worked really well together because of the association of forest green with nature. I think the white and green work well together and produce a clean look.

Website Colors

Posted by jadrh6 on February 20, 2007

As a photographer I like using a black or light gray and white, some thing that is a neutral color. For the reason that we don’t want anything taken away from our photographs. Here are some example websites that I like.

http://web.missouri.edu/~jadrh6/
This site is a site that I designed for a class, I used a darken gray which I liked when I started it but now I think that it is a little to dark.

http://www.robertseale.com
For Robert Seale’s website I like the black but there are some places that the photographs bleed into the background. I’m not a big fan of that because I want to be able to see the whole photograph.

http://www.sportsshooter.com/
This site is a photographer’s forum, and all the colors are neutral color so that you can see all the photographs and other info.

So I am fan of neutral colors.

SarahO color combinations

I liked this site because I think the colors are interesting. It is visually stimulating and captures attention.  The bars help organize the site.

http://www.i-amonline.com/

This is a website for a branding company. I think the layout is very energetic. The main colors are black and yellow which create a very edgy effect.

http://tagliaboutique.com/

This is a site for a wedding boutique. It has an uber popular color scheme of pink and brown. I thought that it was right on target for their target market since many women are choosing browns and pinks for their color scheme.  I’m sure the brown and pink fad will die down in the next two years but for the time being it’s very modern.

Color Combinations – Kayleigh

Posted by kak343 on February 20, 2007

When thinking of good color combinations, a website I found was PerezHilton.com – a celebrity gossip site. The mix of different shades of pink stands out richly against the white blurbs. The website uses intense shades of fuscia, pink, and reddish-orange to look unique.

http://www.perezhilton.com

Another website that uses bold colors is Express Clothing. They use the black and white color scheme with popping colors for lettering. Since the letters stand out against the background they catch your eye first.

http://www.expressfashion.com

The last website that I chose was a blog itself, Pink is the new BLOG. The website is entirely black with bright pink writing and photos. The letters pop when you look at them against the background. I love the color combination of bright against dark.
