Will We Be Wowed?

Posted by tyler86 on January 21, 2007

Rebecca Blood’s article was pretty insightful. I found it most interesting that 1999 was THE year. I don’t remember there being a ‘blog’ explosion, I just kind of remember them being there. I guess my first experience with a blog was Xanga.com. I got my Xanga in March of 2003, well after the rapid growth in ‘99. At the same time 1999 doesn’t seem like 8 years ago either. That seems both longer and shorter than it is. It seems like 1999 wasn’t that long ago, but at the same time it feels like a time without blogs is way longer than 8 years.

That must be a unique feeling to my generation because computers have always been around. I wonder if there will ever be an innovation as monumental as computers and the Internet that it will create an educational lag for my generation. Will we ever be wowed again? It feels like technology is so ingrained in our society that any innovation will just seem like the next logical step, and not a giant leap. I can’t wait to be proven wrong.

Baseball’s Worst Team Gaining Fans?

Posted by tyler86 on January 21, 2007

One blog that I frequently read is called A Royals Fan in Atlanta by Joe Schulman. Joe is a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves. He noticed that many of his friends who grew up in different places had the joy of having two favorite teams: their childhood hometown team, and their Atlanta Braves. Joe felt that he shouldn’t have to miss out simply because he had lived in Atlanta his whole life. He formed certain criteria for choosing his new team. Most important, of course, was to rule out the Yankees. It’s easy to be a Yankees fan and Joe didn’t want that label. He wanted to be a die-hard fan of a team of which it isn’t always easy to be a fan. What team better suits that criterion than the Kansas City Royals?

This blog is featured on The Kansas City Star’s website. We royals fans are optimistic about the direction our team is going and welcome Joe into our family.
