Future of Literacy

Posted by saraho on January 20, 2007

Despite the rapid advances technology has made over the past decades, it’s not surprising that the educational facilities in most schools and universities haven’t kept pace with the techno world. Much like Brit and Charles in the article, the computers that were available at my elementary school were older than what I had available at home. I think the speed technology evolves at would makes it difficult to allocate enough funds to continually upgrade a public school’s computer lab. It seems that with the meager budget education gets in our country, the best that any board of education can do is buy one computer for every 50 kids and pray that they don’t become obsolete in the next 10 years.

In Danielle, Joesph, Brit, and Charles’  stories, their technological savvy gave them useful skills which helped them succeed in their careers. But, none of these individuals acquired these skills through their education. They developed them on their own and with collaboration with their peers. For Joesph, the field of graphic design was so new, he had trouble finding an affordable program.
