Blood’s Blog

Posted by chad428 on January 18, 2007

Rebecca Blood mentions in her blog post that the number of blogs out there had grown so large that it became dizzying for a person to pick one to follow. She said that in September 2000. In January 2007, the number of blogs out there hasn’t exactly gotten any smaller. For the most part, it’s great that any person, regardless of their background in computers, can easily post a blog. However, people shouldn’t confuse having the ability to post one with some sort of mandate to do so. Chances are good that somewhere out there, someone has the same point of view on a specific subject as someone else, and when this is the case, there really only needs to be one blog between the two of them (or however many people there may be). The others can simply become readers of that blog. Having a strong opinion about something doesn’t mean that a person necessarily has sterling skills in presenting their point of view to the world.

Blood also mentions that, as a blogger gains more readers, they in turn gain more confidence in their writings and feel more comfortable writing what’s really on their minds. This can work both ways. Often, a blogger’s most loyal readers can become his or her most vocal detractors if they feel the blogger has crossed the line. Just because a person happens to publish their thoughts doesn’t mean that they occupy the moral high ground by default.

EDIT:  Minor grammar fix.
